What's on my mind this week . . .

I am literally in transit as you receive this, moving from one city to another for a brief stay in the sunshine. My small transition is dwarfed by the major transitions happening in our politics, culture and global humanity. The world is in transit, moving from however you might define the status quo to a state not yet clear. Everything is in motion, from the planets to the climate to the expanding reach of spirituality of different kinds that inspire and foster hope. The Aquarian Age is galloping in - ready or not.

Ancient oral traditions that pre-date the written word carried forward complex understandings of astronomy, astrology and the cycles of the earth’s climate. The story of the flood that covered the known land is found in various cultures across the ancient world. And the message is the same - take care of the precious resource you have been given - the earth. If not, the earth will be cleansed so a new beginning can happen. It is a message modern society easily forgets. The delusion that I am separate from the earth is one that is easy to hold when so little of life is lived in the natural world.

The energy of Aquarius pushes in the direction of innovation, and also carries the energy of rebellion. Ultimately as the Aquarian age forms, it is bound to be chaotic and layered. Individually, it touches each of us. Just like the Fire Horse that symbolizes this year in Chinese astrology, the universal energy right now is fast-moving and dramatic. As my new Aquarian identity forms, I know that I am being asked to leave old identities behind, and that is not easy.

What I’ve noticed about my personal transformation in the past is that it often was a maddeningly slow, incremental process. And it was one that required a degree of attention that I didn’t always possess. The transits surrounding me now are anything but slow, and demand my awareness be present and actively practiced. This demanding inside-out job requires my awareness, attention and mental clarity. Only I can see what that transformation looks like for me. Only you can see what transformation looks like for you.

The new moon eclipse arrives on the 17th in the sign of Aquarius. And Aquarius fosters freedom, global humanity, innovation and authenticity. It’s shadow is authoritarianism. The Fire Horse brings the energy of a cosmic reset - thought that has been ‘in transit’ now moves into motion. On the personal and collective levels movement is the key expression of a new beginning. What that beginning will seed and grow is yet to be fully envisioned. For me, I envision a healed world, an end to the suffering brought about through our inhumanity to each other. I envision peace.

This year the Chinese New Year coincides with Mardi Gras and also the beginning of Ramadan. Lent, in the Christian tradition, follows on February 18. It is rare for all these significant spiritual and cultural events to happen together. I believe it is another reminder that we are all one, whatever tradition we follow. This week I wish you the blessings of the New Moon and the entrance of the Fire Horse. However you are celebrating may you be joyful. May you be imbued with the energy of peace.
